Crew Connection DP Chris Fann of Kansas City consults with presidential candidate Barack Obama prior to a live shot for the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
“The shot of Obama fed directly into the Pepsi Center convention hall the evening Michelle Obama made her speech at the convention”, says Fann, “We used two matching Panasonic VariCam HD cameras to have a close-up, iso shot of Senator Obama and a wide shot with Obama and the host family, who sat on the couch with him.” After her speech the live HD shot of Barack Obama and the host family was switched up on the convention center big screens where he and his wife and two daughters had a live conversation from Kansas City to Denver via satellite. “The show went off without a hitch!”, says Fann, who was humbled by the experience, “I am very glad to have been involved in this shoot. I feel like my crew and I were a part of history. It was very exciting.” He adds, “Live remote shoots and live remote I-Views are always a little tricky. We've done so many over the years that they tend to be routine...but with this one, needless to say, I felt just a bit more pressure. It was 'good' pressure, though!” |
